Comprehensive aged care facility at Miranda
Opus was the consulting structural and civil engineers on this aged care facility for St Basil’s homes on a one-hectare site at Miranda.
The overall building has 2, 3 and 4 storey sections and comprises 100 nursing home rooms with ensuites. 42 one, two and three-bedroom independent living apartments, a secure dementia section, support services, chapel and courtyard, with basement and open parking for 78 vehicles.
The structure is concrete framed, with post-tensioned floors. The ground floor transfer level is one-way banded to accommodate the extensive services in the basement underneath and is supported on footings that are either bored piers or pads, depending on which is the most cost-effective for the varying depth to sandstone.
Civil works included extensive internal roadways, a three-stage 300m3 detention tank strategically located beneath the entry road and a 50m3 recycled-rainwater storage tank for landscape irrigation.
