We specialise in the technical understanding and application of ISO 55001 across all asset classes.

Our Certified Assessors and their experience in infrastructure asset management will ensure your organisations system for managing assets is aligned with this Standard.

ISO 55001 is the result of collaboration from asset management practitioners and experts worldwide, including Opus. The standard uses asset management principles to balance asset performance, risk, and costs associated with delivering asset value – whether that be a financial return from asset investment or asset-based services to a community.

Asset Management System Maturity Assessments

The purpose of the Asset Management System Maturity Assessment is to determine if the organisation has produced sufficient evidence to demonstrate compliance with the ISO 55001 requirements.  Some organisations will realise value in alignment with this Standard as opposed to pursuing full certification.  Opus has developed an assessment process that measures the organisations current status with respect to the Standard’s requirements.  This process also considers Value for Effort in meeting the requirements of the Standard specifically for orgainsations looking to only align their asset management system.

The Opus assessment process is consistent with the framework provided by IPWEA and the Asset Management Council of Australia.

Why Should Your Organisation Be Interested in ISO 55001

The international Standard on an Asset Management System (ISO 55001) is the result of collaboration from asset management practitioners and experts worldwide, including Opus. This Standard uses asset management principles to balance performance, risk, and costs associated with delivering asset value.

ISO 55001 aims to ensure consistency in the system that manages assets and can be applied to a broad range of assets across different organisations.

It is particularly suited to ‘built’ assets, and is expected to become the basis for assessing ‘value-for-money’ while still safeguarding assets and satisfying stakeholder interests.

Organisations are expected to use ISO 55001 as a benchmark for measuring the stewardship of infrastructure assets.

Who is it for?

The Standard is for organisations looking to increase the value from their assets.

  • It is NOT just software
  • It includes people, processes, and technology
  • It is the organisation’s integrated system for managing its assets
  • It focuses on delivering asset outcomes that are linked to the organisation’s business objectives.

Fundamentals

The four fundamental principles of an asset management system, as defined by ISO 55001, are:

  1. Maximising VALUE for the organisation and all its stakeholders from the use of its assets;
  2. Ensuring ALIGNMENT across the organisation to achieve organisational goals;
  3. Achieving ASSURANCE that asset performance will be optimised; and
  4. LEADERSHIP, across the organisation, is effective and encourages an empowerment culture.

Benefits

Aligning an asset management system to the requirements of the Standard may provide the following benefits to organisations and their stakeholders:

  • Community/customer confidence and sustainability
