500 bed mining village near cloncurry in Queensland

This project is a proposed 500 bed mining village near Cloncurry in Queensland.

Carmichael Builders approached Opus as a multi-discipline consultancy to add value to an existing set of documents for their mining company client. Our architects assessed the project and advised the client that if a different architectural approach was applied to the existing design, there could be an opportunity for considerable cost savings in the construction of the project.

We were engaged to re-design and re-document the whole village within a highly condensed timeframe. One of the client’s key criteria was to provide “a place where people want to come and work”.

The resulting master planned process applied a refreshing approach to the layout of the 500 bed accommodation units to improve the visual amenity as well as providing cost effective solution due to the falls on the site. Orientation and location of buildings were strategically placed to maximize views and cross ventilation as well as safety and access.

To enhance the liveability of the facility, the design also features a 2000m² central facilities building, sports courts, gymnasium, amphitheatre, swimming pool as well as the common requirements of maintenance and laundry buildings, sewer and water treatment plants.
